The Chenab River is facing extreme flooding near Chiniot Bridge. If breaches occur, the water flow could increase to between 750,000 and 900,000 cusecs. Total flow could reach 1.2 million cusecs in the river.
Sukkur Barrage is likely to get 800,000 to 1.1 million cusecs between September 6 and 7. Water levels at Kotri Barrage are expected to reach 800,000 to 1 million cusecs on September 8 and 9. Authorities expect high alert conditions from September 12 to 13.
Low-lying areas along the river are in danger. Heavy water from upstream may cause flooding downstream. Farmland, villages, and houses could be affected.
Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh Chief Minister, has instructed officials to remain vigilant. He held a meeting to check rainfall and flood forecasts. More than 52,000 families may be affected by floods. The number could increase if flooding gets worse.
PDMA has sent 72 rescue boats to northern districts and 106 to southern districts. Relief supplies include blankets, tents, mattresses, first aid kits, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, and generators.e river and advise people to follow safety instructions.
