Pakistan Beat USA by 32 runs in a Group A match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Singhalese Sports Club Ground on Tuesday.
Opener Sahibzada Farhan led the charge with a powerful 73 off 41 balls, smashing five sixes and six fours. He was well supported by Babar Azam, who scored 46 from 32 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. Their efforts helped Pakistan post a competitive total of 190-9 in 20 overs.
Pakistan got off to a flying start as Farhan and Saim Ayub added 54 runs in just five overs. Ayub made 19 off 17 balls with two sixes. However, Pakistan lost momentum briefly in the sixth over when Shadley van Schalkwyk dismissed Ayub and captain Salman Agha in quick succession.
Defending the total, Pakistan’s spinners played a key role in restricting the USA batting line-up. Usman Tariq picked up 3-27, while Shadab Khan claimed 2-26, limiting the USA to 158-8 in their 20 overs.
For the USA, Shubham Ranjane was the top scorer with a fighting 51 off 30 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours. He was dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was playing his 100th T20 international. Opener Shayan Jahangir contributed 49 off 34 balls, and Milind Kumar added 29.
The USA were well placed at 123-3 but suffered a collapse in the closing stages, losing wickets quickly and falling short of the target.
The victory was significant for Pakistan as it avenged their surprise defeat to the USA in the previous T20 World Cup two years ago. It also marked Pakistan’s second consecutive win in the tournament, following a narrow three-wicket victory over the Netherlands earlier in the competition. https://dmtn1.com/pakistan-beat-usa-by-32-runs-in-t20-world-cup-match/
